Alexander Class Technical Details

The Alexander Class dreadnoughts like the USS Belisarius, follow the tried-and-true design layout of adding a third warp nacelle to an enlarged space vessel which nominally follows an otherwise routine planform of primary hull and secondary hull. Variations of enlarging one hull or the other (or neither) have been tried over the decades since the first Federation Class dreadnoughts of the 2260s. The Alexanders' distinctive variation utilizes a standard-sized secondary hull mated to a primary hull that is essentially a Knox Class frigate. The gain in internal volume over the basic Constitution Class is considerable, and includes three full-sized shuttle bays. The configuration allows the secondary hull's bay to be enlarged, and used primarily for supplies and cargo, while the two upper bays can maintain normal shuttle operation and combat operations.
