Long-Duration Survey Starship
Venture Class Technical Details

CUTAWAY at CENTERLINE
Internal Arrangement

Venture's design stresses compartmentalization by task. The large secondary hull is devoted to research labs, with the lower decks housing the shuttle hangar and supply stores. All engineering and fuel facilities are housed in the unique beavertail hull extension. This allows the primary hull (saucer) to be completely devoted to crew quarters and recreation facilties, which are much needed on the long-duration survey missions envisioned by the ship's designers. To increase internal space in the saucer, the impulse deck has been extended aft, and the aerodynamic recess in the underside of deck seven has been eliminated. The latter was possible because saucer separation/landing is not a feature of this class ship. Rather, in the event of emergency, the beavertail hull can be jettisoned taking the antimatter containment bottles and intermix chamber with it, and the ship may escape the danger area on impulse or thruster power.
The arboretum on deck five features huge overhead windows aft, a café, and picnic tables.
Within the secondary hull are housed numerous facilities for the cataloging and study of the flora, fauna, geology, ecology and meteorology of alien worlds. Two large chambers are convertible to habitats in the event live animal specimens are brought aboard for study or transport. A compliment of seven shuttlecraft is carried, including two aquatic submersibles equipped for deep oceanographic surveys.
