The Venture's Deck Five is officers' country. Three-fourths of the deck is quarters
for the ship's officers and senior staff. The six quarters in the inner ring of rooms
are reserved for department heads who require small attached offices for meetings.
The private rooms are accessed via the inner corridor, while office doors open on
the outer. The cabins have well-appointed living areas with wall screens, a bedroom
with private work desk/computer station, walk-in storage, and a full private bath.
Senior officers' quarters ring the outer wall. There are eight large
cabins consisting of a spacious living room, bedroom, a full bath, walk-in storage space,
and a private work cubicle with computer station. The Captain and First Officer have
large suites at the port (exec) and starboard (capt.) extremes. Twice the size of
senior officers' quarters, the commanders suites have an entry lobby which leads to
the living area to one side, and a work area to the other. The work areas consist of
a meeting room/office which is reached through a public waiting room, and a private
workspace/office with doors to both the larger office and the private areas through a
large walk-through closet.
At the center of the deck, surrounding the computer core, is a fresh water tank
and standby turbolift car storage. Forward of the core is the officers' mess and
briefing lounge, and the emergency escape stairway that runs vertically through the entire
saucer section.
The aft 25% of Deck Five, as well as Deck Four above it, is dedicated
to the ship's large arboretum. This is a recreational area with a layer of Earth soil
topped by grass, with a display fountain, walking paths, and numerous species of trees
from Earth and other compatible worlds. Benches and dinettes are placed for comfortable
socializing, and food slots line a central kiosk. Above the "field," four huge windows
look out onto the wonders of deep space.
