NEIL THE BARBARIAN

In the first issue, Neil is thrown back in time by a power chord at a Who concert, which coincided with a solar flare and focussed on Neil's seat (Hey, there have been lamer excuses). Pete Townsend's guitar, as the nexus of the event, is along for the ride. Though most of the issue was plotted and sketched, I only inked and zipatoned the first few pages.
Issue 1 Pages 1-4. Pen and ink on bristol board, photostatted, and adhesive zipatone applied to the stats to preserve the original art. Then xeroxed, and colored with Pantone markers. And there lies the pasteup of page 4 half-assed. Click to enlarge
In issue 2, Neil wanders lonely as a cloud, and encounters the freelance barbarian Aga Kha!
Strangely enough, I liked issue 2 more than 1, so I had almost completely finished inking 2, and zipatoned about half of it, when the project died.
Issue 2 Pages 1-4.
Pen and ink on bristol board, photostatted, and zipped.

Later, after rescuing the buxom damsel from the evil wizard, neil pisses off said evil wizard, and the evil wizard reanimates the remains of a bunch of people that pissed him off earlier. Fight ensues with many gags. Note that Pete's guitar is infused with cosmic energy from time travel, so it doesn't need an amp. Hey, why not?
Issue 2 Pages 11-16.
Pen and ink on bristol board, photostatted, and adhesive zipatone applied. Obviously not to 14-16, where bagged it.

Issue 3 was plotted and sketched by Kevin and I in an late-night marathon that was a whole lot of fun. It involved a Conan spoof with a very Jewish "Cohen the "Barbarian," who Neil rescues (sort'a) from a tribe of extreeeemly gay desert bandits and their flaming queen, who spoke in Shakespearean dialog with heavy lisps. Not only difficult to write, but quite politically incorrect as well.
Pencils for Issue 3 cover, and the Great Esacpe scene on pages 11-14.
